Crnokrak begins strongly in 16/u champs
Top seed Alexander Crnokrak opened his 16/u Australian Championships with a straight-sets win at Melbourne Park on Wednesday.

No.1 seed Alexander Crnokrak has beaten Greg Polmans to open his campaign at the 16/u Australian Championships.
Crnokrak dismissed Polmans – the younger brother of Australian pro Marc – 6-2 6-4 to take his place in the second round.
There, he’ll face wildcard Mason Naumovski, who beat Jack Clements in straight sets.
Also advancing was Dane Sweeny, who upset No.3 seed Michael Shepheard 6-3 6-2.
Fourth seed Thomas Bosancic recovered from a slow start to beat Matthew Woerndle 2-6 6-0 6-3, while No.7 seed Rinky Hijikata and Tristan Schoolkate – the finalist at last year’s 14/u Australian Championships – moved into the second round in straight sets.

In the girls’ 16/u championships, the top three seeds – Gabriella Da Silva-Fick, Olivia Gadecki and Lisa Mays – moved through to round two.
Da Silva-Fick subdued Lily Clements-Markham in straight sets, while Gadecki – the champion in last week’s 14/u Australian Championships – did the same to Tahlia Van Der Eerden.
Fourth seed Amber Marshall fell in the opening round to qualifier Georgia Ryan.

In the 12/u girls event, No.1 Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz is yet to drop a game in reaching the third round.
The South Australian won her first- and second-round matches 6-0 6-0 to set up a meeting in the last 16 with Ke Ren, the 16th seed.
Boys’ top seed Alec Braund, who also won his first-round match 6-0 6-0, fought through to the third round with a three-set win over Qwyn Eden Quittner.
