Jordan Thompson advanced to the second round of the ATP tournament in Acapulco on Monday with a come-from-behind victory over Spanish veteran Feliciano Lopez.

Thompson beat the world No.31 2-6 6-3 6-3 in two hours and 15 minutes, saving 17 of 21 break points.

The Australian, a lucky loser entry into the ATP 500 draw, next meets the winner of the match between No.7 seed Jack Sock and qualifier Yoshihito Nishioka of Japan.

Thompson’s compatriots Nick Kyrgios and Bernard Tomic will aim to join him in the second round when they take to the court on Tuesday in Acapulco.
