Mildura VIC, Australia, 12 March 2017 | David Packman

Viktoria Kuzmova has capped off her solid form on the Australian Pro Tour by winning the Mildura Grand International.

After losing to Destanee Aiava in the Perth final a fortnight ago, the Slovakian second seed went one better on Sunday, holding sway from the outset to defeat Katie Boulter 6-2 6-4 in just over an hour.

The Brit had not dropped a set enroute to the final and looked in ominous form, but despite failing on her first attempt to serve out the match, Kuzmova was untroubled by her powerful game.

“Katie has played well this week, especially her serve, and I’m really happy that I made it through,” the 18-year-old said. “It was a pretty good week. I haven’t played on grass for a year and a half and it was great fun.

“I love playing in Australia. This year and last year also have been really great for me.”

The win marks the ninth ITF Circuit title for Kuzmova, who now sits inside the world’s top 200.

Best performed of the Australian contingent were top seed Anastasia Rodionova and qualifier Genevieve Lorbergs who reached the second round. Both lost to Brits with Gabriella Taylor ousting Rodionova in three tight sets while Lorbergs fell to Boulter.

The doubles title was taken out by the unseeded duo of Thai Noppawan Lertcheewakarn and Jia-Jing Lu of China. They defeated the French partnership of Tessah Andrianjafitrimo and Sherazad Reix 6-4 1-6 [10-8].
