Ash Barty has soared 10 places in the latest WTA rankings as she continues to enjoy a stellar 2017 season.

Her latest performance was a run to the third round at Toronto’s Rogers Cup, where she began the week in qualifying before winning four matches on the trot.

Among her victims was 16th seed Elena Vesnina; the Queenslander also pushed Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza to three sets before going down.

Barty has since won another two matches in qualifying in Cincinnati to reach the main draw.

The improvement sees Barty – now ranked 48th – move to within striking distance of the Australian No.2 ranking, currently held by world No.43 Sam Stosur.

Daria Gavrilova is the No.1 Aussie, at No.26.

Also rising was Lizette Cabrera, who jumped four spots to a career-high ranking of No.152 after reaching the final round of Toronto qualifying.

On the men’s side, Sam Groth enjoyed a rise of 12 places to world No.174 after advancing to the semifinals of the ATP Challenger event in Aptos, California.

Since Roland Garros, Groth has won 15 of 20 matches and improved his ranking by nearly 70 spots.

Dayne Kelly jumped 33 places to a career-best No.290; his latest result was a trip to the quarterfinals of the Jinan Challenger in China.
