Ajla Tomljanovic could do nothing to stop top seed Garbine Muguruza powering into the semifinals of the WTA event in Monterrey with a straight-sets win.
The Spaniard, ranked No.3 in the world, recovered from an early loss of serve to win 12 of 13 games in a 6-3 6-0 victory.
Tomljanovic had won 10 of 14 matches this year heading into the quarterfinal but made little headway against the Wimbledon champion, with six double faults and a 56% first-swerve percentage hampering her chances.
Muguruza finished the 57-minute contest with 18 winners to her opponent’s four, and five breaks of serve.
“I think she played those first games very well,” said Muguruza.
“It was a little hard for me at the beginning, but as the match went on I started getting better and finding my game.”
“I tried not to get scared – when someone comes out and starts playing well, I have to stay calm. There’s no rush trying to turn the game around.”
