Jordan Thompson found Bjorn Fratangelo far too strong in an opening round loss at the US Men’s Clay Court championship in Houston on Monday.

Fratangelo’s 6-1 6-1 victory sees the American progress to a meeting in the last 16 with another Aussie in fourth seed Nick Kyrgios.

At the WTA event in Bogota, Lizette Cabrera fell 6-0 6-2 in the first round to Jasmine Paolini.

Cabrera had won two qualifying matches to secure a place in the main draw but dished up nine double faults in a 67-minute loss to the Italian on Monday.

At the ATP event in Marrakech, Alex De Minaur fell in the final round of qualifying, pipped by Russia’s Alexey Vatutin 6-4 4-6 6-4.
