Jordan Thompson has progressed to the last eight of the ATP Tour’s New York Open with a comeback win over qualifier Christopher Eubanks.

World No.60 Thompson dropped the first set before he found his form to prevail 4-6 6-1 6-4.

His victory set up a meeting with top seed John Isner, who on Wednesday evening accounted for Thompson’s countryman Bernard Tomic.

Isner survived a tight first set to win 7-6(7) 6-4 in one hour and 14 minutes, finishing the match with 27 aces and not facing one break point throughout the encounter.

It snapped a six-match losing streak for the American.

In other results, Italian Paolo Lorenzi overcame American Ryan Harrison 4-6 6-4 6-4 in their second-round match to reach the quarters.

In first-round action on Wednesday, Denis Istomin accounted for Mackenzie McDonald 4-6 6-2 6-3 while Moldovan Radu Albot survived 37 aces from Ivo Karlovic to outlast the veteran Croatian 6-7(4) 7-6(4) 7-6(5).

John Millman is also in the tournament, and plays his second-round match against Guillermo Garcia-Lopez first up on Thursday (Friday AEDT).
