Australia’s top ranked junior wheelchair tennis players will compete at the World Team Cup in Tel Aviv, Israel this week (13 to 18 May).
The World Team Cup is the International Tennis Federation’s wheelchair equivalent of the Davis and Fed Cup and features the best wheelchair tennis nations in men, women, quad and junior divisions.
Australia will field a mixed junior team for the first time featuring 17-year-old Hayley Slocombe (Engadine, NSW), 17-year-old Finn Broadbent (Brighton, Vic) and 13-year-old Riley Dumsday (Mornington, Vic).
World No.4 Slocombe is the first junior female player to represent Australia at the event.
“I’m extremely excited to compete at the World Team Cup and I can’t wait to play,” Slocombe said.
“It’s been a long term goal of mine to represent my country so finally getting to have that international experience is just amazing.
“I also think it’s really cool to be the first junior female to represent Australia at the World Team Cup and I hope to see that trend continue in the future.
“My goal is to meet other players from different countries and form new friendships. I also want to compete my hardest and do everyone proud.”
Australia is seeded fourth and will face competition from eight nations in the junior competition. A full list of teams and seedings for 2019 is available here.
