US Open: Hijikata headlines great day for Aussie juniors
Rinky Hijikata upsets No.3 seed Martin Damm to reach the third round of the boys' singles at Flushing Meadows before teaming with fellow Aussie Tristan Schoolkate to score a win in the doubles draw.

Australia’s Rinky Hijikata progressed to the third round of the US Open boys’ singles tournament after a straight-sets defeat of third seed Martin Damm.
Hijikata beat Damm 6-4 6-4 and will next line up against 15th seed Jiri Lehecka, with a quarterfinal place on the line.
Hijikata’s countryman Tristan Schoolkate will attempt to join him in the third round when he takes on France’s Harold Mayot on Wednesday at Flushing Meadows.
Schoolkate and Hijikata, both 18, combined on Tuesday to win their first-round doubles match against No.8 seeds Taha Baadi and Dalibor Svrcina.
The Aussie duo thumped the Canadian-Czech duo 6-1 6-2 to set up a meeting with Romania’s Nicholas David Ionel and Poland’s Wojciech Marek.
Another Australian, Stefan Storch, teamed with Ukrainian Eric Vanshelboim to win his first-round boys’ doubles match 5-7 6-4 [10-6] over Brazilians Matheus Pucinelli De Almeida and Natan Rodrigues.
Next up, Storch and Vanshelboim play American duo Eliot Spizzirri and Tyler Zink.
Canberra’s Annerly Poulos and Indonesian partner Priska Madelyn Nugroho lost their first-round girls’ doubles match on Tuesday.
