Dear NSW tennis community,
Further to the updated restrictions announced by the NSW government today (NSW health advice), Tennis NSW has taken the decision to cancel all Australian Ranking events across NSW from 6pm Saturday 26 June to 11.59pm Friday 9 July. This has impacted the following scheduled events:
Priceline Country Championships
3-6 July Newcastle AMT
3-6 July Gosford AMT
3-6 July Tennis Macarthur JT
7-10 July Wollongong JT
7-10 July Illawarra JT
9-12 July Hills AMT
9-12 July Tweed Heads AMT
In the interests of fairness to all NSW players, we have taken the decision to cancel all scheduled Australian Ranking tournaments. For those tournaments and players who are outside of Greater Sydney, Tennis NSW intends to explore options to provide verified UTR Matchplay for those players not impacted by the Greater Sydney lockdown. These options will be considered in consultation with the venues due to host events as well in consideration for the staff, volunteers and officials scheduled to support these. We will look to confirm our position within the next 72 hours.
In regards to coaching and community tennis, Tennis NSW is currently awaiting the publication of the revised Public Health Orders and advice from the Office of Sport around the definition of community sport and what this will means for coaching, club competition and group programming at a local club level. We will update the tennis community when we have this information.
In the meantime, we ask that all clubs and venues refer to the current Public Health Orders and look to carry out strict COVID protocols at your venues including all player checking-in via the Services NSW QR code and observing social distancing. Masks must be worn indoors and all indoors should must observe the 4m2 rule (NSW COVID-19 rules).
We ask that you understand that these decisions have been made in the interests of the health and wellbeing of our community. We want to avoid bringing crowds together in order to help contain the spread of COVID-19 and protect the well-being of our community.
Thank you to everyone for your cooperation and stay safe.
