4 June, 2022
Today is a very important day for Tennis NSW as we launch our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RRAP) at the Indigenous Tennis Carnival being hosted at Sydney Olympic Park over 4-5 June. ThisĀ RRAP will play a vital role in our strategic objective of creating equitable opportunities for all people and all communities to participate in tennis.
Tennis NSW strives to provide opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through tennis across NSW. After the launch of our inaugural Inclusion & Diversity Plan in 2021, we are committed to delivering on the key outcomes outlined in the Plan.
“Tennis NSW has been working toward the launch of our RRAP for several years, it is a very important day for us as we stand before our Sydney Indigenous playing community and showcase the commitment we make to reconciliation,” Tennis NSW CEO, Darren Simpson said.
“We are thrilled to be hosting the Indigenous Tennis Carnival here at Sydney Olympic Park this weekend and look forward to providing more opportunities for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander tennis community.”
The launch of the RRAP kicked off the Indigenous Tennis Carnival with special guests including the Office of Sport CEO Karen Jones, and the Shadow Minister for Sport and local MP, Julia Finn. The Gadhungal Murring Aboriginal Dance Group conducted the Welcome to Country, smoking ceremony and provided insight into the significance and meaning of their traditional dances before getting the young players up to perform. The players are now taking to the court for what will be two days of quality tennis coaching workshops and competition.
Tennis NSW is devoted to embracing diversity, in line with the Vision 2025 Strategic Plan and NSW Inclusion & Diversity Plan 2021-2025, ensuring the sport is welcoming, safe and inclusive for everyone by reflecting the diversity of the local tennis communities.
Thank you to everyone involved in the development of our inaugural RAP. Tennis NSW looks forward to continuing our work with Reconciliation Australia as we move forward on this journey.
