24 May 2024 | Tennis NSW

This week is National Volunteer Week, it is a time to reflect on, recognise and celebrate the many volunteers that give up their time to ensure people across the state can continue to play tennis. From a social hit to tournaments and competitions, maintaining facilities and general day to day running of clubs, our sport could not survive without the hundreds of volunteers and the thousands of hours they dedicate to tennis.

Tennis NSW CEO Darren Simpson said: “At Tennis NSW we acknowledge the time that our volunteers sacrifice to keep our sport going, you give up your Saturday mornings to run social competitions, you give up your weeknights to open up courts, you give up numerous weekends across the year to host tournaments and competitions, you are the lifeblood of our sport and without you tennis would not survive.”

“We would like to take this opportunity, during National Volunteer Week, to thank you for your contributions. We know many of you are motivated by your love of the sport, for some it is supporting your children, for others it is for the personal satisfaction you get from volunteering, whatever your reason, we thank you.”

Tennis NSW recognises that volunteers need to be supported, connected and fostered. It is for these reasons that we run programs such as Future Leaders. This program is designed to engage and empower young people in volunteering and community leadership by supporting participants in the delivery of a tennis project in collaboration with their tennis club, coach or community organisation. Applications for the 2024 Future Leaders program will be opening in the coming month. More information will be available here.

We support the development of women leaders in tennis through our Sheroes network, working on developing women’s capabilities and confidence in club committees. Sheroes connects over 250 women from across NSW, providing personal development and leadership resources and opportunities throughout the year. We know how busy life is for everyone, so our Sheroes network is designed for as little or as much engagement as people prefer. For more information on our Sheroes program and to join head to our website here.

The research tells us that volunteering has enormous benefits to you, your family and your community. The right match can help you reduce stress, find friends, connect with the community, learn new skills and in some instances even advance your career. If you are interested in learning more about how you can volunteer in tennis or to get assistance in connecting you with the right club, please head to our website for more information and get in touch with us today.

THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR VOLUNTEERS, THIS WEEK WE CELEBRATE YOU!

From the team at Tennis NSW.
