Tennis NSW has proudly achieved Gold Tier Status for the Pride in Sport Index (PSI) for the second consecutive year, recognising its contributions and efforts made to the LGBTQI+ space. Tennis NSW was honoured with this achievement at the 2025 Australian Pride in Sport Awards, held on Wednesday 16 April at the CENTREPIECE at Melbourne Park.
The PSI is the first and only benchmarking instrument specifically designed to assess the inclusion of LGBTQI+ people within Australian sport and sporting organisations.
Tennis NSW Head of Venue & Community Development, Nikita Sayle, shared her pride in this achievement by stating, “We are extremely proud to be recognised as a leading sporting organisation in LGBTQI+ inclusion by Pride in Sport. As an organisation, Tennis NSW remains committed to growing tennis as the most welcoming, safe and inclusive sport. We recognise this work isn’t possible without our Member Clubs and partners who are doing really valuable work within the community.”
Former Tennis Sydney President, Tyler Juel, was also acknowledged at the 2025 Australian Pride in Sport Awards as a finalist for the LGBTQ+ Role Model of the Year award. Tyler has been a prominent advocate for inclusive tennis, working tirelessly to ensure that the sport is welcoming and safe for all individuals to participate in.
“I’m so proud to be recognised as a finalist for the important work by Tennis Sydney and Tennis NSW. We can all be role models and allies in our local communities. Thank you Tennis NSW for leading by example to ensure everyone is welcome to have a go on court!” Tyler said.
Additionally, in a notable achievement, Collaroy Tennis Club became the first tennis club to participate in the Community Club Pride In Sport Index, a smaller version of the PSI. The club’s outstanding efforts and initiatives in advocating for and supporting the LGBTQI+ community have earned them the Silver Tier Status.
Tennis NSW continues to enhance its dedication to the LGBTQI+ community by working closely with our three current LGBTQI+ affiliates, Tennis Sydney, Amazon Women’s Tennis, and Ray Lance Saturday Tennis and Social Group. Alongside this, many mainstream clubs are actively engaging in this space, who prioritise making their venue inclusive for all and participation opportunities for the LGBTQI+ community This commitment marks a meaningful move towards greater inclusivity in the sport.
