Gove Peninsula Tennis Club has received the Most Outstanding Club Award at the inaugural Newcombe Medal, Australian Tennis Awards in Melbourne.

“It is a huge honour just to be here” Nicky Mayer said. “To make the finals was just so exciting and to actually win it – go Gove!”

The Gove Peninsula Tennis Club was one of three finalists; with Geelong Lawn Tennis Club (VIC) and Kendall Tennis Club (NSW) also nominated.

Nicky Mayer, Manager and Head Coach of the Gove Peninsula Tennis Club had the honour of accepting the Award from tennis great Ashley Cooper AO. While Michael Higgins and Paul Mery from the Gove Peninsula Tennis Club Committee made the trip from Nhulunbuy to celebrate this historic win for their club.

“Winning this award is a step forward for the Gove Peninsula Tennis Club. We’ve got something special; we’ve been recognised at a Northern Territory level and now a National level”

The Newcombe Medal, Australian Tennis Awards also featured categories for Community Tennis, Tournaments, Athlete Development and Coaching with awards such as the Volunteer Achievement Award, Excellence in Officiating, Junior Athlete of the Year and Coaching Excellence in both Club and High Performance categories.
