Kassandra Dunser has become the first Northern Territory female athlete to record a main draw win at a Grand Slam in either singles or doubles.
Competing in her first Australian Open Junior Championships, Dunser teamed with Victorian Azra Hadzic to claim victory in their first round doubles match at Melbourne Park with a 6-4 4-6 10-3 win over Hungarian Kriszina Kapitany and Indian Rishika Sunkara.
Dunser and Hadzic will now play the fourth seeded pairing of Margarita Gasparyan and Daria Gavrilova of Russia.
Earlier, 15 year old Dunser made her Grand Slam debut against the number 2 British junior Jennifer Ren. In a closely fought match that could have gone either way, Ren came out victorious 4-6 3-6 in just under two hours.
