A close battle was fought between DTC Sports and LifeTime Gardens on Saturday 20 August to decide the Metro League Champions for 2011.
Gardens got off to a flying start claiming 4 of the 6 doubles rubbers on offer. In the match of the round, Dave Bridges and Ian Redmond (Gardens) overcame a late charge from DTC Sports’ Jamie Stefanato and Sam Giess to clinch victory in a nail biting match tie-break 6-2 6-7 13-11.
While the longest match of the round, Kane Nurton and Stephanie Long (DTC) came back from losing the first set to defeat Darren Jakobson and Sam Perry (Gardens) in another close match tie-break, 4-6 7-5 10-5.
DTC Sports began strongly in the singles with two 6-3 6-3 wins for their top 2 players, Ryan Palfrey and Nicholas Munro. Kacy Brennan, Kaelan Bates and Sam Giess also added to DTC’s total with all three wins in the match tie-break. Gardens began a late resurgence with wins to Ian Redmond, Dave Bridges and Frank Wallner; however the damage had already been done with DTC Sports claiming victory 11 Rubbers to 7, and becoming the Metro League Champions for 2011.
The Metro League Player of the Year, which will include results from the finals round, will be announced at the Annual Presentation Dinner on 5 November 2011 at SKYCITY Darwin.
