People’s Choice Metro League

Gardens Tennis secured a surprise upset win against DTC Sports 2, with a 7 Rubbers to 2 win.
Steve Lewis-Driver and Frank Wallner (GT) got the ball rolling with a tightly fought 6-4 2-6 7-6 (7) win over Nicholas Munro and Kacy Brennan in the #1 doubles. Ian Redmond and David Bridges kept to the same theme, coming from a set down to clinch victory by 2 points in the Match Tie-break with a 4-6 7-6 7-6 (11) win.

The close matches continued in the singles with Bridges overcoming a determined Giess 7-6 3-6 7-6 (5) in the #3 singles, while Dean Moliari got some revenge for DTC Sports 2 when he overcame Redmond 6-4 3-6 7-6 (6) in the #4 singles.

Other winners for Gardens Tennis included Frank Wallner, Scott Boller and Andrew Hawke.

People’s Choice Reserve League
DTC Sports 2 secured a comfortable 5 Rubbers to 1 victory over Gardens Tennis.
Oscar Ferdinands and Peter Politis had a close 6-4 6-3 win over Jacob Howden and Teyrnon Higginson in the #1 doubles, while Ronin Shima and Nikolas Mpilias easily accounted for Liam Jong and Serena Adams 6-1 6-0.

However it was Adams who salvaged the lone Rubber for Gardens, with a very close 7-6 7-6 win over Politis.

People’s Choice Metro League
DTC Sports 1 accounted for the People’s Choice Metro League leaders, Tennis Palmerston with a 6 Rubbers to 3 win.

Ryan Palfrey and Michael Shepheard got the home team off to a great start, claiming the #1 doubles 6-2 6-2 over Mark Pead and Des McLellan. The #2 doubles was a lot closer affair, with the visitors Rhys Janes and Carlos Ruiz taking handy leads in both sets; however they were unable to win the big points and went down 4-6 5-7 to Jamie Stefanato and Madeleine Murray.

The singles Rubbers were spread evenly with wins to Ryan Palfrey, Michael Shepheard, Lucas Frichot for DTC Sports 1 and Des McLellan, Rhys Janes and Max Lye for Tennis Palmerston.

People’s Choice Reserve League
In the closest match-up so far,  DTC Sports 1 and Tennis Palmerston were locked at 3 Rubbers all at the end of play. It was DTC Sports 1 that walked away with the win by 1 set and 4 games.
Liam Franklin and Rosie Henderson (DTC) accounted for the Rayner sisters, Rebecca and Stephanie 6-0 7-5 in the #1 doubles, while Tanya Gallon and Riley Wauchope (TP) secured a close 4-6 7-6 7-6 (6) win.

Franklin, Henderson, Gallon and Wauchope also secured singles wins for their respective teams.
