A warm 36 degrees met the players in central Australia for the start of Main Draw matches at the Alice Springs Tennis International.
Three of the eight singles matches where extended to the third set, with two of the matches coming back from a set down to claim victory.
Day 2 play begins at 10am, with the completion of the first round singles and the doubles quarter-finals.
Number 1 seed and defending champion Matt Barton (NSW) will be in action on court 1 not before 1.00pm against South Australian Jack Schipanski.
Other seeds in action include number 2 seed Alex Bolt (SA), runner up at last week’s Cairns Tennis International as well as third seed Adam Feeney (NSW), winner of the Hutchinson’s Toowoomba Men’s International two weeks ago.
Unseeded AIS athlete, Andrew Whittington (VIC) the winner of the Cairns Tennis International last week will also be in action second match on court 3 not before 11.30am.
