Darwin played host to the 75th School Sport Australia 12 Years & under Tennis Championships, more commonly known as the Bruce Cup in August.
Darwin last hosted the Bruce Cup back in 2005, when the NT came 5th out of the 7 teams competing. In 2013 the NT equalled this feat by finishing 6th of out the 8 teams competing. The NT team in 2014 may not have equalled or bettered this result, but they played some great tennis, made some new friends and represented the Northern Territory to the best of their ability. Well Done Team NT.
The Bruce Cup is a team-based competition with 14 players (7 boys and 7 girls), which saw State versus State in Mixed Doubles, Boys/Girls Doubles and Singles. This year saw the inclusion of the first School Sport Australia National Singles Championships, which gave players the opportunity to compete under their State/Territory flags in an additional singles – Junior Tour Platinum Event.
