Round One of the Junior Tennis League kicked off last Friday night using the exciting new FAST4 format.
The Barra’s and the Croc’s were locked in a tight struggle from the outset of the match with neither team taking a commanding lead. Liam Franklin came away with three wins in his singles, doubles and mixed doubles with four of his six sets going to the all-important tie-break. Lauren Riggall also walked away with three wins on the night.
The Buffalo’s took an early lead in the singles with Oscar Ferdinands and Rosie Henderson. The pair then combined to push there team further in front with a 4-2 4-2 win in the mixed doubles. Kyle O’Donoghue-Ellis claimed some ground back for the Frillie’s with his singles and mixed doubles wins with Serena Adams, but was unable to clinch the boy’s doubles which ended in a draw.
SHOT OF THE ROUND goes to Jaimee Murphy (Frillie’s) not once but twice passing Oscar Ferdinands (Buffalo’s) down the line in the #01 Mixed Doubles, both winners receiving loud applause from the onlooking supporters! Unfortunately the Frillie’s went down in that match 4-2 4-2.
