It was the internationals that proved too strong for the Australian players in the Boys and Girls Singles finals at the Darwin Junior International. Number 1 seed from Japan, Kokoro ISOMURA breezed through his Singles Final in under 60 minutes against Australian Stefan BIANCHET, taking the title 6-2 6-2. When asked about the week, Isomura commented; “I played solid throughout this tournament and the weather was pretty challenging. I had a tough semifinal and got up in three sets. After my semifinal match I was confident and managed to get the win in the final. This tournament for me was very good and I hope to play again here in the future.”
In the Girls Singles Final Sara NAYAR (MAS) had to once again fight her way back from a set down, before finally claiming the title in just over 2 hours against top seed Natasha RUSSEL (AUS) 2-6 6-1 6-4. Nayar noted that she enjoyed the tournament, stating “It was a great event and I’m happy that I could pull through my matches and win the title!”
The finalists now have a few days to rest, with Main Draw for the NT Junior International tournament commencing on Monday 3rd June. Qualifying for the event commences Saturday 1st June at 9:00am.
