It was the battle of endurance on court at the Darwin Junior International today with only one of the Singles Semi Finals lasting less than 2 hours, between Girls top seed Natasha RUSSELL and opponent Darina KAMENOFF. Russell claimed victory in an hour and a half, downing Kamenoff in straight sets 6-2 7-5.
On the other end of the scale, the longest match of the day saw opponents Edward VO [4] and unseeded Stefan BIANCHET battling it out on court for 3 hours in a tight 3-set match. Bianchet started strong, taking the first set 6-4, before Vo came back to claim the second set in a tie-break. Unfortunately for Vo, he was unable to keep his form, finally going down to Bianchet 6-4 6-7(4) 6-4.
The 2 remaining semifinals, lasting 2.5 hours each, saw come backs from both their respective winners after they lost their initial sets. Sara NAYAR [3] of Malaysia downed Aussie opponent Lara WALKER 2-6 6-3 6-2, whilst top seeded Japanese player Kokoro ISOMURA took out Aussie 3rd seed Alex BULTEĀ 4-6 6-4 6-4.
