24 May 2024 | Tennis NT

Tennis fans were treated to a spectacular night of tennis in the finals of the DARWIN OPEN 2024.

We were delighted to have the support of the local NT Ballkids program, they have been in training and this was their first event to show us what they had learned. Ballkids need quick reflexes and great hand-eye coordination.

The team out on court mirrored the play impeccably, being calm and still during points, and then springing into action to move the play along between points. Well done to all of the Ballkids team!

First up in the women’s final, locals Eva HARRIS and Piper FREEMAN came head to head, with FREEMAN taking the winners trophy despite a big fightback from HARRIS in the second set.

In the mens final, both local Nicolas TREMBLAY and Tasmanian George ANDERSON had their supporters cheering them on. They both know each other’s game well and were desperate to win. The match stretched to 3 sets, going right down to the wire. ANDERSON was ultimately the victor in the Darwin heat.

Last up we had the mens doubles final, with Nicolas TREMBLAY and George ANDERSON back on court against each other. TREMBAY partnered with Dante PARRIERA, and ANDERSON with Campbell YOUNG. ANDERSON and YOUNG took out the match, and were we happy to see the camaraderie out on court between all of the players.

Lastly, we would like to thank and congratulate all of our players in the Darwin Open. It’s been a pleasure watching you play!
