The September Series of big event tennis in the NT kicked off with the 2024 Bridge Toyota NT Open Championships. This event is a wonderful tournament for our top local players to show their stuff against world ranked players who play this tournament as a warm-up before the two Professional tennis tournaments that follow it.
Local players included Lincoln PRATT, Simon SWENSON, Arran KENNA, and Alvaro RUIZ COTORRO. KENNA and RUIZ COTORRO made it to the 2nd and 3rd rounds respectively, with RUIZ COTORRO putting in the km’s with his characteristic speed to advance far into the event.
The mens finals would be between professional circuit players (and doubles partners) Josh CHARLTON and Matt HULME. Both CHARLTON and HULME had arrived early in Darwin to get used to the fast courts and perfect tennis weather.
The mens final on Friday 6th September had a wonderful evening crowd and the NT Ballkids crew making the match move smoothly. The Ballkids crew were excited to see professional tennis action up close and the players were delighted to have them on court.
The match was a tight and entertaining one, with both players displaying amazing touch on court and thrilling fans with their skills. Ultimately, CHARLTON took the finals trophy with a win of 7-6, 6-4. CHARLTON and HULME were also happy to take the mens doubles trophies home too, in their partnership.
