A right-hander, Letcher represented Australia in Davis Cup from 1976 to 1978, compiling a 4-4 win–loss record (2-2 singles, 2-2 doubles).

The Australian Open Junior Champion of 1971, he was the US Open doubles runner-up in 1976, and the Australian Open doubles runner-up in 1978 and 1979, both with fellow Australian Paul Kronk.

Letcher passed away on 31 December 2004.
