The first 2011 Queensland Platinum AMT will commence this weekend!
The 2011 Queensland Open Claycourt Championships will be held in Ipswich from March 18-21.
Tournament Director Clint Fyfe says the tournament provides players with an excellent opportunity to prepare for upcoming national events.
” Many of these players will be competiting in clay events such as next week’s Pro Tour event, the Ipswich Tennis International” or the National Junior Claycourt Championships, so this Platinum AMT is an excellent way to prepare and gain match play on clay,” Fyfe remarked.
“We are happy with the draw, it is exceptionally strong and includes a number of ATP and WTA ranked players.”
Queensland’s no.2 seed, Sophie Letcher is excited to be playing in this weekend’s tournament.
“I am really looking forward to competing this weekend in the Platinum AMT because it is a good opportunity to get some match play before the Ipswich Tennis International.”
Fellow Queenslander Elisabeth James is also looking forward to playing in the event.
“Playing on clay is really fun and you don’t get a lot of opportunities to practice on it, so it is always great to have an opportunity to compete on this surface.”
