Queensland rising star Ashleigh Barty won top honours at the ITF Grade 1 Sarawak Chief Minister’s Cup in Malaysia.

Unseeded Barty continued her excellent form, claiming the title with a 6-3 7-5 win over Canadian Carol Zhao and dropping just one set during the entire 18/u event.

This is the fourth international junior title, and first Grade 1 title, for 14-year-old Barty, following on from some excellent results on the Pro Tour last month where she reached the quarterfinals in Mildura and the third round in Sydney.

Barty is currently ranked 622 in WTA rankings and is the highest ranked 14-year-old girl in the world.

Ashleigh was happy with her result,  saying “it was awesome to get a win here in Malaysia.”

“I  am just glad to have played some great tennis and be rewarded in the end.”

Ashleigh also enjoyed the camaraderie between her fellow Australian players.

“Being included in such a large Aussie team really gave us confidence. I think we proved that Australia is still able to achieve great results in Asia.”
