News from the Tournament department…

The 2011 Brisbane Open Age Classic was held over 6 days from April 16, at the Queensland Tennis Centre and Griffith University.  Despite rain effecting play on 5 of the 6 days all 370 players and parents were very patient and played out their matches between rain delays.

Each event of the five events were played over a 3 day period to coincided with the Optus National Claycourt Championships in Ipswich and provided a fantastic opportunity for players travelling from interstate to participate in an extra tournament during their stay in Queensland.

Many of these players gave extremely positive feedback on the format of the tournament which gave them plenty of match practice.  As a trial for future tournaments, players who lost in the first two rounds of consolation had the opportunity to sign in for a second singles and doubles consolation, meaning that all players who played singles and doubles were guaranteed a minimum of 5 matches.

The Tennis Queensland Tournaments Team looks forward to seeing all the Brisbane Open Age Classic players and many others at the Rod Laver Junior Championships in July.  For the first time in 2011, there will also be a lead-in event for the Rod Laver Championships.  The Rod Laver Lead In Tournaments will be held from 1-4 July and the Rod Laver QLD Junior Championships from 5-9 July.
