Queensland’s up and coming stars have been taking the tennis world by storm and have been supported by Goodlife Gym at Graceville and the QAS.
After the Queensland Tennis Centre (QTC) was devastated by the January floods, Goodlife and QAS stepped in and provided Brisbane’s National Academy athletes with alternative training centres.
Goodlife Graceville’s Club Manager Josh Field was happy to lend a helping hand.
“We know how much damage was done at QTC. It just felt like the right thing, in community spirit, to help them out,” Mr Field said.
“We wanted to give back a littlehelp out and it was great having athletes at their level in our gym.”
Tennis Queensland and the National Academy Brisbane would like to extent their thanks to Goodlife Gym at Graceville and QAS. Access to their facilities has helped prepare Queensland juniors who include 2011 Wimbledon Junior Champion Ashleigh Barty and Semi-finalist Jason Kubler.
National Academy coach Grant Jenkins is especially appreciative for the good will shown by the two gym facilities.
“There is only so much you can do without proper facilities, so without the use of the gyms, our juniors probably couldn’t have done that,” says Mr Jenkins.
National Academy athletes have now returned to the Queensland Tennis Centre for their fitness programs.
