Australia’s Bernard Tomic and world No.19 Stanislas Wawrinka will open the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group Play-off at Royal Sydney Golf Club tomorrow.
They will be followed by a re-match of one of tennis’ most classic rivalries when world when Australia’s Davis Cup stalwart Lleyton Hewitt takes on world No.3 Roger Federer. Hewitt won their last Davis Cup encounter, an epic five setter in the 2003 semifinal.
On Saturday Hewitt will team with Chris Guccione against Federer and Wawrinka in the crucial doubles tie.
The reverse singles on Sunday will see Tomic play Federer for the first time, with Hewitt up against Wawrinka.
The winner of the Play-off will advance to the elite 16 Davis Cup World Group in 2012, with the loser returning to zonal qualifying.
Play commences on Friday and Sunday at 11.00am, with Saturday play starting at 12.30pm. The Australia vs Switzerland Davis Cup Tie will be broadcast on Channel 7.
