The South Region Region JDS team competed at the JDS finals on the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd of October at the Rockhampton Regional Tennis Centre. The team put in a great showing and finished fifth overall, achieving 34 points beating out a very tough Brisbane team. Central Region took top honours for the weekend, North Region placing second, with Gold Coast Region rounding out the top 3.

The South Region team placed 7th last year and the big improvement was attributed by the close team environment over the weekend. Community Tennis Officer Travis Dragojlo managed the team and was assisted by some of the parents in the region. “The weekend was unbelievable! You could tell that everyone was playing for the team.”  Travis said.

This year’s South Region circuit was run using a newly developed round robin format with all the participants getting at least 4 singles matches, which seemed to put the kids in great stead for the Finals.

Special mention must go to Naomi Hitchener who placed 4th in the 13/U Girls and Alarha Miller who placed 5th in the 15/U Girls!
