The Toowoomba Regional Tennis Centre- USQ was officially opened last week.

The Hon Phil Reeves (Minister of Sport and Child Safety), Peter Taylor (Mayor of Toowoomba Regional Council), Bobbie Brazil (USQ Chancellor), Ken Laffey (Tennis QLD President) and Allen Smythe (President of Toowoomba Tennis Association) attended the facility opening, which had been constructed as part of the Regional Tennis Facilities Program.

Tennis Queensland’s facility manager Michael Blomer is happy with the final facility result.

“The recently completed Toowoomba Regional Tennis Centre-USQ will be a fantastic addition to an already strong tennis landscape in the Toowoomba region.”

“This facility will allow Toowoomba to again host major tennis tournaments, such as the 2012 Hutchinson Builders Toowoomba International which attracted highly ranked professional tennis players from around Australia and the world.

“In addition to this annual event, there is also a possibility this facility could bid to host a Davis Cup or Fed Cup event in the years ahead.”

Toowoomba’s new regional tennis centre offers 12 high quality Plexipave courts, a two storey clubhouse with a pro shop, player amenities (including a player lounge), a tournament office and large verandas on both levels which overlook the courts.

The centre will be open shortly for daily use by the public.
