An enthusiastic crowd was on hand to support the Beenleigh Blaze on
night two of the Asia Pacific Tennis League – QLD conference.
The Beenleigh Blaze men overcame the loss of two of their star
player’s to defeat the ladder leading Tennis Brisbane Chargers
in an upset which has shaken up the competition. Going into the
doubles locked at two wins apiece, Blaze team-mates John James
and Lachlan Treacher sealed the win with a 4-0 4-3 victory over
Chargers Gavin van Peperzeel and Luke Gerry.

The Beenleigh Blaze women kept their unbeaten record intact with
a comprehensive victory over the Tennis Brisbane Chargers women.
The Blaze didn’t drop a match impressing their parochial
supporters. They will look to keep their unbeaten record intact
against the Tennis Brisbane Tornadoes on Thursday night.
Tennis Brisbane Tornadoes player Isaac Frost had a massive win
over professional doubles player Paul Hanley (Shaw Park Sharks)
in the opening singles rubber between the two men’s heavyweights.
Frost prevailed in three sets, a win which proved the difference
between the two sides. Both the Sharks and Tornadoes are well
placed heading into the next tie on Thursday night.
Hanley enjoyed playing in front of his Queensland fans
I really enjoyed the whole evening. It was great to play
here at Beenleigh as I only live ten minutes from the venue.
It’s a great facility which had a fantastic atmosphere here
tonight for each of the matches. I really like the format as
you get the opportunity to play singles and doubles in a fairly
quick time-frame. The matches are fast and quick which provides
an exciting night for all of the spectators.
Unfortunately, losing my singles probably proved the difference
tonight however there were plenty of close matches which could
have gone either way. The Tornadoes were too good in the end.

The Shaw Park Sharks women’s team continued to justify their
early billing as competition favourites with a 6-0 victory of
the Tennis Brisbane Tornadoes women. The Sharks now lead the
competition table with everyone looking forward to their showdown
with fellow ladder leaders the Beenleigh Blaze next week.

Nineteen year old Jason Kubler (Toowoomba Tigers) was in great
touch during a 4-1 4-0 victory over Sunshine Coast Breakers
player Sean Fyfe.
Fyfe ended up having the final say on the tie though teaming with
Peter Tramacchi to defeat Kubler and David Hodge in a decisive
doubles rubber. The Tigers and Breakers were locked at three
rubbers all winning a count back on sets seven to six. It was a
remarkable comeback from the Breakers who at one stage trailed
the Tigers three matches to nil.
The Toowoomba Tigers women hit their straps with a 6-0 victory over
a young Sunshine Coast Breakers outfit. The match of the night was
played out between Tigers spearhead Isabella Holland and Breakers
player Katie Lee. Holland won a tight third set tie-break setting
the scene for her team-mates to romp home to victory.
