The Asia Pacific Tennis
League – Queensland
conference heads to
Toowoomba tonight for
the final round of season
fixtures. Whilst the female
finalists are already
decided, the men’s race is
wide open. The Tennis
Brisbane Tornadoes and
Beenleigh Blaze clinched
vital victories in round four of competition on Friday
night at the Shaw Park Tennis Centre.
The Tornadoes defeated the Sunshine Coast Breakers 5-1 whilst the
Blaze defeated the Toowoomba Tigers by the same margin. The Tennis
Brisbane Chargers currently lead the competition on 26 points with
the Blaze and Tornadoes locked on 19 points apiece.
The final team in the mix are the Shaw Park Sharks.
The Sharks are currently on 14 points and need a decisive victory
over the Beenleigh Blaze to move into contention. The Tornadoes men face the home team Toowoomba Tigers who will
be difficult to beat in Toowoomba. A key match-up will be
Tornadoes spearhead Isaac Frost taking on Tiger’s number
one David Hodge who has shown good form during the
competition. The Blaze will face the Sharks who are coming
off a 6-0 drubbing at the hands of the ladder leading Chargers.
The Sharks know they must win decisively to make the
final and will have an important emphasis on each rubber.
Former pro Mark Draper (Blaze) will be up against New Zealander
Logan Mackenzie who will be leading the Sharks in the opening match
of the night. Both player’s will be looking to set the tone for their
respective teams. The final men’s match of the night will see the
ladder leading Tennis Brisbane Chargers take on the Sunshine
Coast Breakers.
The Chargers will be buoyant after their great performance on Friday
whilst the Breakers will be looking to bounce back from their loss
to the Tornadoes. Chargers leaders Michael Look, Robert Smeets and
Gavin van Peperzeel remain undefeated in singles for the competition
and will be hard to beat tonight.
The Shaw Park Shark’s women continue to dominate the competition.
In front of a appreciative home crowd the Sharks easily accounted
for the Tennis Brisbane Chargers winning 6-0. The Beenleigh Blaze
were the second team to clinch a spot in the final defeating the
Toowoomba Tigers 5-1.
The Sharks and Blaze will square off in Toowoomba tonight before
doing battle again in the final on Friday. The Sharks depth will
be tested against a Blaze team who have been improving throughout
the competition. A key match-up will be the opening rubber
betweenteam leaders Shannon Golds (Blaze) and Rachel Tredoux
(Sharks).

Tigers will take on the Tennis Brisbane Tornadoes whilst the
