4 January 2013 | Tennis Queensland

Day five of the Brisbane International saw two groups of Hot Shots kids travel to the Queensland Tennis Centre for a chance to experience their own special part of the tournament.

Eleven indigenous kids travelled from Toowoomba and surrounding regions with Dusty Wilson, Indigenous Community Sport and Recreation Officer from the Toowoomba PCYC. The kids arrived after a long bus trip and were very eager to stretch their legs and have a look around the facility – especially the Kids Zone!

Coach Jesse Parker from Sunshine Tennis also brought eight of his excited Hot Shots players in and after watching Daniela Hantuchova  then Milos Raonic practice on Show Court 1, the kids were pumped and ready to show the crowd and their delighted parents their skills.

The kids had half an hour to hit on the modified Hot Shots courts and even had the chance to showcase some of their fun, inclusive Hot Shots drills and play-based activities to the crowd.

Brian Baker (USA) World No. 61, gave the kids a thrill when he stepped out on court to give them a quick hit, play some points and have a group photo.

MLC Tennis Hot Shots (MLCTHS) is just for kids. Smaller courts, lighter racquets and low compression balls that don’t bounce too high make learning tennis fun and easy for primary school-aged children. This means that kids are able to start rallying and having fun right from their first lesson!
