14 January 2013 | Tennis Queensland
Congratulations Tenika McGiffin (Mackay), Shannyn Flynn (Mackay) and Patrick Myles (Townsville) for being selected to represent regional Queensland in the recent Foundation Cup, played at the Parramatta City Tennis Complex, January 7 to 11.
This was only the second year that Queensland has been represented in the event, and it is hoped that Queensland will continue to be represented in years to come. The event provides a fantastic opportunity for junior tennis players from regional areas to come together and represent their states in a team format.
Other Queensland representatives included: Thomas Braithwaite (Mount Isa), Jayden Court (Eidsvold), Brendon Schultz (Bundaberg), Megan Smith (Dalby) and Hillary Tjandramulia (Rockhampton).
At the completion of the Round Robin events, the Queensland girls were placed second, behind NSW and played the NSW girls in the final play-off round for 1st or 2nd. It was a close match at 3 rubbers each, however NSW were the eventual winners based on sets and games.
The Queensland boys finished in third place, after playing South Australia in the final play-off for 3rd or 4th position, and defeating them 5 rubbers to 1.
Congratulations to the NSW teams, who took home both the girls and the boys trophies.
In the Mixed Doubles competition, the Queenslanders were the outstanding winners, undefeated in all matches!
