From the 23rd – 26th January, Albert Park Reserve in conjunction with the Australian Open at Melbourne Park hosted the 2013 Australian Championships for intellectually disabled athletes.
The event brought together 38 athletes from around Australian and Japan all contesting for a final spot at Melbourne Park on the Saturday.
The Queensland boys of Archie Graham, Mitchell James and Josh Holloway represented the state in both the Open men’s singles and doubles finals. Archie and Mitchell faced off on court 5 at Melbourne Park during the Australian Open Men’s Semi Final day with Archie excelling with a 6-2 6-2 victory.
Mitchell and Josh then teamed up to take out the doubles final over Senya Rudoy and Damian Phillips 6-3 6-1. Mitchell and Josh were very excited after being runner’s up at the 2012 Australian Championships. “I can’t wait to get back into training and be back here next year” Josh excited stated after the win.
