The Charters Towers Gold Pan Junior Teams Carnival was played on the weekend of March 2nd and 3rd, with players travelling from Proserpine, Townsville, and Ingham to compete against each other, as well as a strong contingent of local players. It was a great weekend of tennis and the weather was kind, with only a slight rain interruption.
Players played one singles and one doubles match in each tie with the event being held over 5 ties. The carnival is an introductory event for players to competition where they can experience competition in a team setting and for those who are regular players, the event provides a competitive hit before the season properly commences.
Division 3 winners were Townsville Terrors, (Ethan Barra, Luke Forster, Hayden Melish and Rhylie Snell), with Charters Towers Home Growns (Liam Brown, Lachie Lerch, Bradly Wright, Kurtis West and Riley Smithers) coming in second.
Division 2 was won by Charters Towers Team TooCool4You (Cody Bucklar, Todd Thorn, Harry Kempster and Connor Lerch), edging out Prossie Hitters (Bailey Pratt, Max Cornish, Kimberly Azul and Seth Trinder).
Division 1 had 6 teams competing. Ingham Cyclones (James Monaghan, Brendan Hill, Jayden Vaccher and Adrian Vaccher) proved strongest ahead of Prossie Stars (Catherine Cassels, Josh Dobe, Kayla Donovan and Sam Cornish).
Event organiser and Charters Towers Tennis Club President John Single thanked everyone who assisted in making the event a success, and made special mention of Michelle and Kylie for coordinating the canteen, and Stephen for the BBQ.
