Last week, Tennis Queensland was lucky enough to attend the Queensland Sports CONNECT Forum.
Queensland State Sporting Organisations (SSOs) were identified as leading the way in inclusive sport. Sports were given the chance to showcase how they were a leader in the sport and disability sectors in Queensland for including people with a disability.
Tanya Corbett, Senior Community Tennis Officer – Metro, Ellie Ryan, Community Tennis Officer – Gold Coast, and Paul Wallace, Community Tennis Officer – Sunshine Coast were in attendance to learn, network and showcase what Tennis Queensland was offering in its inclusive programs.
The headlining session of the forum was named ‘SSOs HAVE TALENT’, where sports auditioned in front of a panel of talent experts (disability sector representatives) who provided feedback and advice for that sport’s inclusive journey. The three sports who presented on this were Bowls Queensland, Swimming Queensland and Tennis Queensland.
Elia Hill, Community Tennis Manager presented on behalf of Tennis Queensland on all aspects of core programs Tennis Queensland offer. The panel of judges from the disability sector scored the presentation very highly, with Tennis Queensland taking the lead and the coveted title of ‘most inclusive sport’ at the Forum.
Tennis Queensland’s Mission Statement is ‘To Make Tennis a part of life for every Queenslander’ and it is great to have other sporting organisations, disability service providers and industry representatives recognise this!
