The weekend proved very exciting for Queensland tennis fans as Brisbane born Jason Kubler upset second seed and match favourite Jordi Samper-Montana (ESP) to take the title in the Italy F4 Futures.
Kubler came into the tournament unseeded and enjoyed great form through the tournament dropping just one set. His opening match against Alessandro Bega featured Kubler’s only lost set. This round saw five of the eight seeded players taken out, including number 1 seed Andrey Golubev (KAZ).
After the first round, Queenslander Jason Kubler fought his way through the tournament in champion fashion to end with a stellar performance against Samper-Montana with a 6-1 6-4 result.
The win will be a welcome turn of events after Kubler was defeated in the Australia F5 Futures as he fought to defend his Bundaberg International title.
