8 May 2013 | Tennis Queensland

The Oakley Inter-Academy Team Challenge brought together sixteen of Queensland’s best academy programs (and regional teams) from around the state (including our first inter-state team from the Northern Territory) to compete against each other in a fun and competitive “team based” competition. Each academy, coach or region nominated their two best boys and girls in the 2000 and younger birth year (must be 12 prior to the start of the event). The competition format was “Round Robin” with playoffs and included two pools of eight teams, matches were played to time and decided by number of games won with no add deuce.

Sixty-six of Queensland’s best young players from all over the state participated in the fun, exciting and team orientated challenge. A number of on and off court activities were also conducted throughout the three day camp including coach workshops and player/parent presentations.

Congratulations to the Pro-One Tennis Academy from the Gold Coast who defended their title from last year to be Team Challenge champions. The team was led by their coaches/team managers Tom George and Brett Hunter and included Will Timoney, Max Stewart, Olivia Gadecki and Lada Baglaeva. They defeated the TFP Academy (No.1) program from the Sunshine Coast in the final (for the second year in a row) who included their coach/team manager Clint Fyfe, Dane Sweeny, Jack Barnett, Kristina Lane and Darcy Gifford. The TFP Academy No.2 program from Ipswich also made the semi-final stage against the Southport School.

A special thank you from the Coach Development team must go to all of the coaches/team managers and presenters for their time and efforts throughout the camp, we greatly appreciate your input, thoughts and ideas to make this event the success we had.
