QUEENSLANDERS Ash Barty and John Millman have been handed Tennis Australia’s wildcards into the French Open.

Under a reciprocal deal with the French Tennis Federation, Australia are given one men’s and one women’s wildcard into the French Open main draw.

After showing recent success on clay, Barty, 17, has been gifted her second main draw wildcard into the Grand Slam, which starts on Sunday week, giving her a chance to better her first round loss last year. “On the back of her crucial match win in Fed Cup, Ash looks primed for Grand Slam success in the near future,’’ said Tennis Australia’s head of professional tennis, Todd Woodbridge.

The men’s wildcard went to the world No.141 Millman, recently winning three matches to qualify for the main draw of the ATP event in Munich. Millman, 23, is the fifth ranked Australian man and was ranked No.199 at the start of the year, showing great improvement through a stellar first quarter of the year.
