ASHLEIGH Barty has been honoured by the Ipswich City Council and appointed Youth and Sporting Ambassador for the City of Ipswich.
Mayor Paul Pisasale praised Ashleigh’s contribution to sport and her love of Ipswich.
“Ashleigh Barty is a phenomenal tennis talent smashing it on the world stage,” he said.
“She got her love for tennis and her start in sports right here in Ipswich.
“We are thrilled by Ashleigh’s achievements and are extremely proud that she is Ipswich-born and raised.”
Ashleigh and her doubles partner Casey Dellacqua became the first Australian duo to reach the women’s doubles final of the Australian Open since 1977.
Cr Pisasale wished Ashleigh success at the US Open. “I want her to know that all of Ipswich is behind her and proud of our local champion,” he said.
