The top seeds began their campaigns without any fuss on the first day of the 2013 Hutchinson Builders Toowoomba International.
Men’s top seed Alex Bolt looked in ominous form with a 6-1 6-3 victory over fellow South Australian Darren Polkinghorne. Bolt was followed on centre court by third seed Luke Saville who took on Australian Junior Davis Cup team member Marc Polmans. Saville recovered well from 4-3 down in the first set to run out at 7-5 6-0 victor.
The final singles match on centre court was a battle between two international visitors to Toowoomba. Slovakian top seed Zuzana Zlochova prevailed in a very tough encounter against Thai player Katherine Westbury 6-3 3-6 6-2. Other winner’s in the Tilly’s Crawler Parts women’s draw included second seeded Victorian Azra Hadzic and Queenslander Ashling Sumner.
Wednesday’s action on centre court will be opened by exciting 16 year old Queenslander Akira Santillan. Santillan takes on fellow young gun Jacob Grills from Victoria. Following this, fourth seed Jessica Moore will take on Rockhampton’s Olivia Tjandramulia. Tjandramulia could prove a difficult assignment for Moore after impressing at junior events around the world in 2013.
The final singles match on centre court will pit fourth seed Jordan Thompson (NSW) against Shoki Hachiya from Japan.
