Gold Coast takes out Junior Teams Carnival
The 2013 Queensland Junior Teams Carnival was held from 14 – 18 December in Brisbane. In what was a massive week of tennis the Gold Coast took out the title – 2013 winning region!!!
The Gold Coast 11 & U Team played very well throughout the week with the A team consisting of Lara Walker, Sophia De Oliveira, Jesse Stephenson, Alex Furst, Jacob Bradshaw and Harrison Turner winning the 11/Under age group! They won their final playoff by 4 games! The 11/Under B team played some fantastic matches throughout the week and came 7th overall. This team consisted of Laia Pasini, Liz Stephenson, Kaitlyn Hart, Bradley Tompkins, Angus Timoney and Blake Weise. Fantastic overall performance from all players in the 11/under age group.
In a very strong 13/Under competition Gold Coast A team came second overall. They contested in a close final going down by one rubber. This was a fantastic effort by the team. The A team consisted of Komaki Ido, IsabellaBozicevic, Rhiannon Frizzell, Yukimaro II, Ben Hielscher and Darcy Deveilliers. The B team had a fantastic week of tennis and came an overall 11th place! The B Team consisted of Emma Mitchell, Abbie Hawkins, Maxine Moore, Bogdan Bob Mulunovic, Joshua Wirrell and Oskar Takahashi-Torok
Over at Griffith the 15 & U A team played incredibly well over the week finishing an overall 2nd place. The A Team had a close match in the final only going down by one rubber in the end! The A team was made up of Lara Tupper, Ella Husrefovic, Tayla Lawson, Trystan Martin, Daniel Biark and Karl Mosterd. The B team were in a tough pool for their matches, but pulled through with some fantastic wins and played well together as a team. They finished an overall 7th place. The team consisted of Shannen Meyer, Momo Hara, Olivia Walsh, Josh Piunti, Flynn Ross and Hamish Stewart.
The 17 & U A team finished their pool matches in a tight 2nd place! They had a close semi final but were beaten! They then won their playoff match for 3rd/4th position, so placing 3rd overall. This team was made up of Sarah Brown, Georgia Sim, Samantha Cameron, Ben Mitchell, Nick Thorpe and Khyel Bentley-Tucker. The B team had a great week of tennis where they had some close ties. They finished and overall 11th place. This team was made up of Jennifer Clarke, Madison Rhoweder, Jessica Platten, Nick Turner, Sam Walsh and Zane Sillery-Shaw.
In the individual event all Gold Coast players represented the Gold Coast region in a great manner. We had some fantastic results including,
- Lara Walker – 11/Under Girls Singles Runner/Up
- Laia Pasini – 11/Under 4th place 11/Under Girls Singles
- Harrison Turner – 11/Under Boys Consolation Runner/Up
- Komaki Ido – 13/Under 4th place Girls Singles
- Ella Husrefovic– 15/Under Girls Singles winner
- Trystan Martin – 15/Under 4th place Boys Singles
- Sarah Brown – 17/Under Girls Singles winner
- Jennifer Clarke – 17/Under Girls Singles consolation Runner/Up
A huge thank you to all the managers for helping out all week with players and tournament schedule. It was fantastic week where we were able to benefit from having the managers on court with the kid and be heavily involved in all areas of the carnival. Big thank you to:
