The inaugural AO Blitz has produced fantastic results for Queensland on a national scale.
Leading the pack for Queensland in the AO Blitz was Cooroy who finished second in Australia’s highest ranked Tennis Power towns. Biloela finished fifth to complete the top ten for Queensland.
In light of their second placement, Cooroy tennis coach Rob Schmitt and Noosa Councillor Sandy Bolton travelled to Melbourne for the release of the Australia Open draw. Councillor Bolton acknowledges that this is a rare and unique experience for the small town of Cooroy to achieve.
“It was a mighty big day for our Shire when representatives from Cooroy attended the draw for the Australian Open in Melbourne as part of their incredible second placing in the AO Blitz.” Councillor Bolton said.
Their respective rankings have earned Cooroy the Australian Opens’ #1 seed Serena Williams and Biloela #3 seed David Ferrer. If either of these players win the Australian Open Singles Title then the town the player represents will receive a town party courtesy of Tennis Australia.
Despite Hervey Bay owning the fifth highest scoring club in the country and the third, seventh and eight highest point scoring competitors, they finished twentieth in the tennis power rankings and received #10 seed Caroline Wozniacki.
Kawungan State School in Hervey Bay finished in the top three schools for the country, with St Joseph’s Primary School in Biloela unlucky to have finished seventh on the standings.
