Officiating Update

It’s been a wonderful and busy start to 2014 for Queensland Officials who were part of the officiating teams servicing the Brisbane International and Australian Open.

Through growth and development of local officials, this year 58% of the officiating team servicing the Brisbane International were Queenslanders. This has been a big jump from only 30% two years ago. Well done to all the individuals involved. Keep up the great work and continued development.

The start of the new year also saw two established Queensland Officials receive International promotions from the ITF which are supported and endorsed by the WTA and ATP.

  • Simon Cannavan was promoted to a ITF Silver Chair Umpire. This comes after years of travelling the world officiating, working hard and achieving good evaluations.
  • Cheryl Jenkins was promoted to ITF Gold Chief of Umpires. It’s been 20 years since an Australian Official was promoted to ITF Gold Chief of Umpires. Cheryl is only the third Australian Official and the first Australian female to reach this highest International certification. She also joins an elite group of only 17 fellow female ITF Gold Chief of Umpires worldwide.

Well done to Simon and Cheryl on their wonderful achievements.
