Bernard Tomic will fly the Aussie flag at the ATP 250 event in Nice when he takes on Slovak Martin Klizan, the recent winner of the BMW Open in Munich later today.

If successful, he will progress to a second round meeting with second seed Ernests Gulbis.

Fellow Queenslander Jason Kubler won three matches to qualify for the main draw across in Dusseldorf, Germany and will aim to keep green-and-gold hopes alive when he faces another qualifier, Italy’s Alessandro Giannessi, in the first round.

Meanwhile, in WTA action, 18-year-old Ashleigh Barty will face seventh seed Shuai Peng (CHN) in the first round of the Strasbourg International. She will team with Casey Dellacqua in doubles, who beat fifth-seed Elena Vesnina of Russia 7-5 3-6 6-3 in the first round of the International-level tournament.

Barty, who earlier this month was awarded a wildcard into the French Open, will enjoy some final match practice ahead of Sunday’s opening round at Roland Garros.
