Yesterday, saw day one of qualifying matches for the Brisbane International begin!
There was a total of seven Australian women including Queenslander Lizette Cabrera, hitting it out in the qualifying rounds vying for their chance to join fellow Aussies Sam Stosur (QLD), Ajla Tomljavonic (QLD) and Jamila Gajdosova (QLD) in the main draw.
Queenslander and wild card entrant Lizette Cabrera unfortunately lost her qualifying match to Elizaveta Kulichkova from Russia after an intense one hour of play.
Anastasia Rodionova (VIC) was the only one of the seven Australian girls to make it through to the next round of qualifying with her defeat over fellow Australian, Storm Sanders (VIC) two sets to one.
Anastasia is set to go up against American No.8 seed, Irina Falconi during today’s round two of qualifying in order snatch a third-round qualifying berth.
Today, will also see Aussies Harry Bourchier (TAS), Blake Mott (NSW), Matt Reid (NSW), Dane Propoggia (NSW) and Queenslander, Maverick Banes take to the courts for their qualifying matches.
Wildcard entrant and Queenslander, Maverick Banes will go up against Former world No. 12 and Serbian Davis Cup star Victor Troicki.
The match will be both exciting and interesting as Troicki recently stated his intention is to crack the top 10.
Saturday is free entry to Queensland Tennis Centre. For tickets from Sunday, January 4, visit Ticketek.
