31 March 2015 | Tennis Queensland

Sixteen tennis legends banded together at the inaugural “Brad Drewett Pro-Am Tennis Charity Day”, held at Australia Tennis Academy on 22 March 2015 to pay tribute to Brad Drewett and raise almost $50,000 for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Queensland.

Radio broadcaster, Alan Jones opened the event as 12 of the legends partnered with 12 amateurs vying for the Brad Drewett memorial trophy. Fittingly enough, it was 14 year-old aspiring young pro Celine Southern, who was sponsored by her grandparents in the name of her uncle who is suffering from MND along with her partner Ben Mitchell who took out the glory in this prestigious event.

Collectively the group of “legends” (pictured below) have chalked up 42 Grand Slam Titles, seven Davis Cups and two Fed Cups, and included: Ken Rosewall, Lesley Bowrey, Mal Anderson, Bill Bowrey, John Alexander, John Frawley, Geoff Masters, Scott Draper, Peter Doohan, Mark Kratzmann, Bob Giltinan, Paul Hanley, Sandon Stolle, Johan Anderson, Michael Tebbutt and the baby of them all Benny Mitchell who is currently a young touring pro and future Davis Cup Star.

Brad Drewett sadly passed away from MND in 2013. In 1975 and 1977 Australian Open Junior Champion and the youngest player at age 17 to win the title since Ken Rosewall and John Newcombe.
